Frequently Asked Questions
What are these wallpapers for?
The images on this site are to be used as wallpapers for the NXE dashboard on the XBox 360.
How do I apply a picture as a wallpaper on my XBox 360?
See the tutorial section HERE.
Do I need to leave the USB flash memory stick in the XBox to access the wallpaper?
No, when you apply the picture, a copy is saved to your hard drive in the form of a 'theme'. It can be found with your other downloaded themes.
Do I need to keep putting my memory stick in every time I want a new wallpaper?
Not necessarily. If you pick a lot of wallpapers you want, then apply them all one after the other, your XBox will create a theme for each one ready to be used next time you want to change.
How do I change my custom wallpaper to one I was previously using?
You do this in the same way that you would change a theme:
1. Navigate to 'My XBox' by pressing up/down on the d-pad or analogue stick.
2. Navigate to the window titled with your gamertag/profile name (should be 'right' once) and hit 'A'.
3. In the new menu that opens, scroll down and pick 'Change Theme'.
4. A list appears showing all your downloaded themes, and also every picture you have applied as a theme previously.
Can I submit my own custom wallpaper to NXEW?
Yes you can! So long as it is your own work that you are submitting. Never take anybody else's NXE Wallpaper and claim it as your own! Just use the Submit Page to get in touch! The quickest way to submit your work is to upload your image to an image hosting site such as Photobucket or ImageShack, and send the link via the Submit Page.
If I want to make my own custom wallpapers, what image dimensions do I use?
The NXE will stretch images to fit the background space, so technically you can use any.
However, to have an image appear exactly as you intend it, it is recommended you use an image size of 1920 X 1080px when designing your wallpaper.
I'm trying to create my own wallpapers. How do I know where the cut-off is for where the none-visible area will be?
Download the template from HERE. This is downloaded in .PSD (Photoshop) format. The PSD file is layered so you can effectively paste your wallpaper design into the layer titled 'Background' so it appears under the dsahboard features. This will allow you to see which parts of your image are visible. The PSD file can be opened in both Photoshop and GIMP.
How do I change the colour of the grey 'hill' on the lower half of the screen?
Currently Microsoft has not allowed changing the colour of this section whilst using custom wallpapers. Hopefully this will be a feature in a future update.
How do I change the colour of the mini-blades that appear when I press the guide button?
Currently Microsoft has not allowed changing the colour of these blades at all. Hopefully this will be a feature in a future update.
I have a question that is not answered here. What should I do?
Simple - ask, by using the Submit Page. If the question is relevent NXE Wallpapers, it will be added to this FAQ page.
